Woking Cougars v Frimley Green
27th Sept 2009
Frimley caught the Cougars cold and went ahead with a well struck low drive in the opening minute after some confusion in the Cougars defence. But the Cougars midfield of Joshua, Liam , Tom, and Fabio began to pass the ball well and find Callum upfront who was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. The cougars did equalise through an own goal after a powerful run from Liam led to a Frimley defender, trying to clear, succeeding only to beat his own keeper.. Cougars continued to dominate with Manuel, William and Jordan defending stoutly. Oliver keeping goal coolly, Joshua tigerish in midfield, and Callum, Liam, and Tom combining well going forward . The inevitable second goal came when Callum played Liam in on the left who controlled the ball well and from distance struck a low powerful shot into the corner of the net to put the Cougars into a well deserved lead.
Cougars made changes and it very nearly paid further dividends. Good work on the right from Callum , lead to a smart shot on the turn from Luca that was inches wide.. Minutes later the cougars won a corner on the right Liam took it quickly short to Tom who made himself a better angle and rivalled an unstoppapple shot into the top corner to make it 3-1.
For the second half Callum swapped with Oliver in goal, Jordan and Manuel were working hard at the back to keep a spirited frimley team from coming back into game. Cougars then again started to ascert themselves with further good efforts on goal from William, Liam , Fabio and Tom.. Oliver then made the game safe after winning a tackle driving forward and placing a smart short into the bottom corner.
Frimley were now finding it difficult to get out of their own half and after a few attempts to clear.. the ball fell to Fabio on the edge of the box who went passed a defender and drove firmly into the net giving the Frimley keeper no chance.
Liam then got his Second and Cougars sixth of the game after winning the ball in midfield beating 2 defenders and finishing with a crisp low shot.
A late consolation from Frimley in the final minutes completed a 6-2 scoreline.
