The cougars kicked off and showed their intent with strong tackling and quick passing on what was a very difficult surface at Updown Hill .. Early on , a long clearance from Alex fell to Callum just inside the Windlesham half , a neat 1-2 with Hugo left Callum clear of the Windlesham defence and from the edge of the area struck a firm shot that was just wide..
The sticky conditions led to the Majority of the first half being played in the midfield where Tom Liam Joshua and Hugo won countless tackles. At the back Fabio and Alex made sure the Windlesham attacks reduced Emilio’s involvement to handling back passes and distributing well from hand
Going forward Callum was unlucky not to wriggle free from the wasps defence on a few occasions and only some good blocks prevented Tom Hugo and Joshua worrying the keeper . The Cougars looked the more likely to score an opener and finished the half with a number of corners that were dangerously delivered in by Liam and Tom without reward.
The second half saw the Cougars continue to press forward in a bid to break the deadlock, Windlesham were still dangerous on the counter attack and only great covering from Fabio Alex and Liam prevented the Wasps from pinching the lead. Tom Joshua and Hugo with neat skills continued to probe and were unlucky not to feed Callum with telling through balls. Liam and Tom struck well hit shots from distance but unfortunately straight at the Keeper.
Emilio became a spectator in the goal, as the cougars dominated the Wasps in the closing minutes..A corner from Liam was spilled by the wasps keeper and the ball fell to Alex who volleyed just over from close range , more last ditch defending from Windlesham frustrated the Cougars further .. A neat cruff turn from Liam left him with just one defender to beat on the edge of the Windlesham penalty area, the wasps defender managed to get a crucial tackle in but the ball ran to Alex but unfortunately his well struck shot ran the wrong side of the post..
By the final whistle, the cougars could be very proud of their performance and were extremely unlucky not to of won the contest...
