The in- form Cougars had much the better of the early exchanges and soon had the Albion keeper working hard to keep them out .. A series of in-swinging corners from Tom and Liam had the home team reeling and only first class saves from the Albion keeper prevented Callum, Hugo, and Joshua from giving Cougars the lead.
The Cougars were dominant Emilio was very assured and kicked well , Alex and Fabio were first to every loose ball in defence, Tom Liam & Hugo had a firm grip on Midfield with neat touches and accurate through balls. Callum upfront was a constant threat.
The opening goal was inevitable, Liam evaded a couple of Albion challenges with a strong run down the left and then delivered a low cross , Callum was first to react, then swivelled beat the advancing keeper with a neat shot in off the far post..
The Cougars were fully in control, The Albion were struggling to contend with the Cougars pass and move 2 touch football. Tom again delivered a dangerous corner from the right which Liam met on the volley but the keeper again parried to safety, Hugo then cut inside and his well struck shot was saved by the keeper down to his left. Tom then let fly from distance but his effort was gathered in by the Albion keeper.. Fabio then ran from the half way line, went around 4 Albion players and hit a powerful shot which the keeper parried the impressive Callum reacted sharply and hit the rebound goal ward but again the Albion keeper saved well.
The pressure was relentless Alex worked some space down the left and his low drive was gathered in by the Albion keeper. From the resulting keeper’s kick Tom controlled well and found Liam in space just inside the Albion half. he then cut further inside and hit a pile-driver destined for the net but was denied by a full length finger tip stop for the save of the half..
Just before half time the Cougars did double their advantage. A shot from Tom was blocked in the Albion penalty area and whilst the Albion defence dithered Callum nipped in, turned smartly and looped a high shot over the Albion keeper and into the net.
In the second half the Cougars took up where they left off and straight from the kick off Callum and Liam combined well with 1-2’s up the pitch, good support from Hugo led to ball being played out on the right to Tom who passed back inside for Callum to shoot at the keeper.
The Albion keepers kick dropped in midfield, Joshua crunched into a 50-50 challenge and came out with the ball then slipped it to Liam in support who dropped a shoulder and delivered an inch perfect through ball for Callum to put him 1 on 1 with the advancing Albion keeper. Callum steadied himself but his well hit shot just cleared the crossbar.
Fabio and Alex were defending well and made sure that Emilio became redundant during the second half. Both were also joining the attack where possible and it was a strong run from Fabio that led to Cougars 9th corner of the game. Liam delivered it with pace and accuracy into the box, the Albion defence again struggled to clear. Joshua pounced fired into the bottom corner of the net and reeled away to celebrate extending the lead.
With 6 mins remaining Fabio capped his game with a fine individual goal, a blistering run down the wing, left 2 Albion players for dead he then pushed the ball passed the last defender who tried to bring him down but he regained his balance, took aim, and fired an unstoppable shot past the Albion keeper to make it 4-0.
With the Cougars in the comfort zone, Emilio swapped positions with Callum and took his place upfront, and almost added to the score line, Hugo attacked the Albion defence, Joshua again tackled well, which made the ball run loose to Emilio who tried to hook the ball home from close range but the Albion keeper managed to smother his effort.
In the final seconds Liam latched onto a clearance from Alex and found himself with just the keeper to beat but his powerful right foot drive slide just wide of the far post , keeping the final score line down to 4 without reply …
