The opening saw both teams struggling to find rhythm after a number of weeks since their last matches.
The first quarter of the game saw only two real chances, one at either end. The first was a neat passing movement involving the home team ..Callum, Hugo and Liam combined well in midfield then the ball came across onto Tom’s left foot 20 yards from goal and in typical fashion he let fly and it needed a smart save from the Swans goalkeeper. The Staines chance was a much better one, their striker found himself in space and one on one with Emilio, but the Cougars keeper got his angles right and made a fantastic save at full length to deny visitors the lead.
This led to a spell of Staines pressure but further secure handling from Emilio, covering tackles from Alex , Fabio, and a bone cruncher from Tom made sure that the Cougars stayed on level terms.
The Cougars then caused the Swans problems themselves. Alex tried his luck from long range Hugo, Liam, and Fabio accurately passed the ball forward where Callum worked tirelessly as the lone striker. . But he l couldn’t quite wriggle free from the Swans stout defence.
Early in the second half Joshua harried the staines midfield into a mistake Hugo picked the ball up and slid a perfect through ball to Callum through on goal but the Staines keeper was very relieved to see the shot luckily strike his boot and just wide for a corner which liam took but again cleared well.
The Cougars were now looking the better side and only covering tackles from the Staines midfield meant the deadlock was left unbroken.
Both teams refused to budge and looked dangerous on the counter attack.
Another through ball from Hugo released Callum down the right but his low cross was cleared just as Tom was poised to shoot. The cougars continued to press and now having their best spell of the game Joshua, Tom, Hugo and Liam had a grip of the midfield. Fabio, Alex and Emilio dealt comfortably with the odd raid from the swans.
Callum’s runs were unsettling the visitors and a mistake at the back left him through on goal He tried to plant his shot into the bottom right hand corner but the ball slid just the wrong side of the post and out for a goal kick.
Although the ball spent more time in Staines territory they still looked dangerous but with emillio immaculate in the cougars goal, Alex and Fabio quick to anticipate anything played through and the midfield four of Joshua Hugo Liam & Tom probing throughout mean't another clean sheet, but no goals to celebrate, on what was another impressive display from the consistent Cougars.
